01 — Foundation

Origin Narrative

The documented story of why the brand exists.

Example: "We started making our own jerk sauce in Portland because the supermarket brands lacked that real pimento wood smoke flavor."

Mission Statement

A clear promise of the daily value you provide.

Spotify Example: "To unlock the potential of human creativity—by giving a million creative artists the opportunity to live off their art."

Core Values

Principles that guide every decision and hire.

Example: "Resilience (We find a way), One Love (We treat clients like family), Excellence (No shortcuts)."

Long-term Vision

A specific destination for where the brand sits in 10 years.

SpaceX Example: "To enable people to live on other planets."
02 — Audience

Customer Profile

Detailed description of your highest-value audience.

Example: "Michelle, 34, Diaspora in London. Wants authentic Jamaican coffee but worries about shipping times and freshness."

Pain Point Analysis

Identification of top frustrations your clients face.

Uber Example: "People hate standing in the rain trying to hail a cab or wondering when it will show up."

Buying Triggers

The specific life event or moment that causes a purchase.

Example: "A returning resident planning a container shipment before moving back to St. Ann."

Emotional Hook

How the customer wants to feel after using your service.

Apple Example: "Feeling creative, innovative, and part of the group that 'thinks different'."
03 — Positioning

Differentiation

The unique "only" factor that makes you the choice.

Example: "We are the only villa in Ocho Rios with a private chef included in the base rate."

Competitive Matrix

Gaps identified in your top local or global competitors.

Netflix vs Blockbuster: "Blockbuster requires you to go to the store and pay late fees. Netflix comes to your mailbox (and later screen) with no late fees."

Value Proposition

A single clear sentence explaining why a customer should buy.

Slack Example: "Slack: Be less busy."

Market Category

The specific shelf you sit on in the customer's mind.

Tesla Example: "We aren't just a car company. We are an energy innovation company."
04 — Identity

Visual System

Codified look including logo, colors, and typography.

Coca-Cola Example: "That specific shade of Red (#F40000) and the ribbon device are recognized in every country on earth."

Voice & Tone

Guidelines for how the brand speaks naturally.

Example: "Professional but with Jamaican warmth. We say 'Good Morning', not 'Hey there'."

Brand Photography

A consistent style of imagery that avoids generic stock photos.

Airbnb Example: "Authentic, warm, high-resolution photos of real homes and hosts. Never cold, staged real estate shots."

Touchpoint Consistency

Ensuring the brand feels the same online as it does in person.

Ritz-Carlton Example: "The motto 'Ladies and Gentlemen serving Ladies and Gentlemen' applies whether you are booking online or checking in at the desk."
